SAVE fully supports the activities of The Federation for a Sustainable Environment (FSE), an organization that is taking on the Department of Water Affairs to task regarding the devastating effects of Acid Mine Drainage on river systems.

The Federation for a Sustainable Environment (the FSE) is a non-profit association established in October 2007 whose objectives include protecting and promoting environmental health and functional ecosystems for future generations and to promote sustainable and just social development as an inseparable consequence of natural resource use development projects.

On the 23rd February 2013, the Federation for a Sustainable Environment launched an appeal against the Department of Water and Environmental Affairs concerning Acid Mine Drainage.

The appeal authority has been requested to reopen the process so that the necessary information can be placed before the decision maker and the public and that plants to treat acid mine water can be built with additional features that will address the concerns that are suggested in the documents that were not put before the decision maker.
